Year End Banquet
Sunday, November 10

Our end of the season banquet will be Sunday, November 10 from 5-8. It will be held upstairs of Christ’s Place Church. This is a semi-formal event where we will recap the year’s highlights and break bread together.

If you haven’t done so, please RSVP via email to Jessica Young  and let her know how many you will have so we can make sure the church has enough tables/chairs ready for us.

Since we don’t have a large number of families, would it be too much to ask each family to bring a main dish, side, and dessert?  Of course, if this is too much for you please don’t worry about it.  We would more than anything like to see everyone come and celebrate the season.

We could also use some help with the banquet.  It would be great if someone could lead the way in decorating.  In the past, we have tried to keep this pretty simple. The plan is to arrive at the church by 4 to set up tables; decorations can be set up at that time as well. Also, we typically get the seniors a volleyball and have the team sign them. We would love for someone to take this task on.  Any interest in any of this, please let  Jessica Young know.

2014 Cougars
Volunteer Vacancies

Moving forward with Cougars Volleyball, we are in need of your talents to fulfill the great number of duties it takes to keep our program running smoothly. Some of the responsibilities that will be vacant are:

Scheduler: responsible to set up tournaments, regular schedule, be the contact for opposing teams and gyms, assign refs for home games and parent line judges etc. for both home and away games. This is a big job but Jessica Young has offered to walk along side someone who would be brave enough to take on the challenge. ( :

Concession coordinator: the responsibilities here depend greatly on the facility chosen for home games and what would be allowed.

Firework stand contact:  the firework stand proved to be a HUGE blessing to us this year. Although it does require lots of hands.  It would be great for a Cougar family to come along side the Bennetts, of the Eagles, to assist in the leadership of the stand.

Board members: We have had 2 godly men stand up and join the board this season and we are very thankful for that.  It would still be nice to add 2-3 more men to the board.

These are just a few of the bigger jobs. There is always need for more help. Please just be in prayer for what your part is. If you are able to commit to helping the program in any capacity please email Randy Gibson and express your interest. Thank you all so much.

Springs Christian Sports Academy
Volleyball Skills Training

Springs Christian Sports Academy is offering volleyball skills training that would be a great opportunity for all Cougar players. The clinics are conducted at Abbott the hour before our practice on Tuesdays by Bryce, our practice facility contact. There will be 3 weeks of overlap with the Cougar season and then it continues through November. This is a very reasonable price for quality instruction in individual volleyball skills and Coach Deb encourages everyone who can to attend. More detailed and sign up information is below.

Springs Christian Sports Academy is offering VOLLEYBALL for BOYS & GIRLS on Tuesday afternoons beginning Oct 15 – Nov 26 at Abbott Sports Complex on N. 70th St.

1:30 – 2:30 Elementary
2:30 – 3:30 Middle/High

Professional volleyball player and full-time coach Bryce Hickerson will be the head coach for this session and both BOYS & GIRLS are highly encouraged to come learn this sport from an excellent coach.

Cost is $35 per player, plus $10 for a green SCSA t-shirt.

Sign up at here or contact Tiffany Schmidt at homeschoolvolley@aol.com for questions.

Jet Splash Fundraising

Tuesday, August 20th, Christy Gibson will have the Jet Splash cards available to pick up at practice. The forms (worksheets) for you to keep track of your selling are available here. Most of you have already paid your Cougars registration fees (THANK YOU!) but this is still a great way to earn some money back and pay for expenses through the season.

Please have your Jet Splash Fundraising forms and money collected returned to practice on Thursday, August 29. We will also be collecting forms and money on:
• Thursday, September 12
• Thursday, September 26

If you have your registration paperwork ready, it can be brought to practice and given to Jessica Young.  Registration—and other needed—forms can be found in the navigation at the top of the page. Registration fees will be kept at $200 per player this year, that can also be turned into Jessica Young or Coach Deb at practice.  Please remember to check out our individual fundraising opportunities if needed.

Fundraising Information

There is new information about Jet Splash Car Wash sales and Cougars Game Program ad sales on our fundraising page. Please take a look at these opportunities to help fund your Cougars tuition.

Our Philosophy

The Lincoln Lady Cougars’ goal is to play and grow in the sport of volleyball, to grow in our character as young Christian women, and to develop lifelong relationships.  The team is open to all homeschool girls grades 7-12.  The girls must be homeschooled for at least 50% of their classes.  This season we will have 2 teams. Varsity will play at a competitive level and Junior Varsity will focus on the fundamentals of volleyball as well as competition. The teams are divided by skill level not necessarily age.

Practice Times & Location: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 3:30-5:30pm

Practice will begin Tuesday, July 16 and will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-5:30 at Christ’s Place Church 1111 Old Cheney Rd unless a game has been scheduled for that day or we need to relocate because of a church function. To find the gymnasium, enter through the north doors (double doors under big awning).

Though practices begin in July, we ask for a commitment to be made by July 30.

Costs for the 2013 Season

The 2013 registration fee will be $200.  We ask that final registration fees be paid by  August 15th.  Individual fundraising will be available. Additional costs are incurred traveling to games. Team apparel for players and fans will be available for purchase.

We play teams from the surrounding area and will travel to Omaha for away games.  Our goal is to  schedule games on  practice nights so we do not take up another night during the week and away from family. Varsity will hopefully play in 3 tournaments and the JV will hopefully get into 2 this season. Tournaments are typically held on Saturday or Friday- Saturday. Varsity will complete the year by playing in the National Homeschool Volleyball tournament in Omaha at the beginning of November.

Our team uniforms are conservative and consist of a jersey and mid-thigh length short.  The uniforms are owned by the team. Each girl will receive a warm-up team shirt that will be included in the cost of registration. Players will need to have their own shoes and knee-pads.

Registration & Medical Release Forms

Along with your player fees, each athlete (and parent/guardian) is required to fill out a Registration Form a Medical Release Form and a Player/Coach Contract Form. (You can access these by the links in the previous sentence or from the main menu above). Please fill these out at your convenience and bring them to practice by Tuesday, July 30, or mail them to: Randy Gibson, 1841 Perkins Blvd, Lincoln, NE 68502.

Photo Gallery

We have added a page of photos to our website. Thank you Tami Thacker for the great images you captured at the Manhattan Tournament! If anyone else has pictures, bring ‘em on and we can add to our gallery. See the images here, on our Photo Gallery page.

2013 Cougars Handbook is Posted

The recently revised  2012 Lincoln Lady Cougars Handbook is posted. (It is found under the forms section in the main navigation). It covers the expectations, rules and regulations of our organization. Please give it a read at your convenience. If you have questions or concerns about nay of the information, please bring it to the attention of a board member and we’d be glad to help clarify.

SMS Updates (Text Notifications)

If you have not signed up to receive “SMS Updates” (texts), simply use the box on the homepage sidebar, to be notified by text of quick, time-sensitive announcements. We encourage this method of contact to help save some confusion with cancellations, changes to schedules due to weather and urgent announcements if and when those situations arise. For the time being, the texts will appear to come from a phone number like “1 (410) 000-” and will show “jacobvik@host375.hostmonster.com” (the gentleman who has allowed us free hosting under his web domain). If you have any problems, please feel free to contact Randy Gibson.

Pictures Anyone?

If anyone has photos to contribute from practices or games, our website would surely be a great community clearinghouse for everyone to see the team in action. You can send Randy Gibson photos directly via email or use the contact page and attach them to your correspondence. Either way, send what you’ve got and we’ll post them for everyone on the team to see!
